Michael Bowe from New Ross, Co Wexford was delighted with how helpful and welcoming the lecturers were, when he began his journey at SETU
Why did you choose SETU?
The course, Higher Diploma in Operational Excellence, was very in line with the work I’m doing at the moment. It’s also only a one year course which was important for me because going back to education was kind of enough to commit to.
What did you do before you decided to return to education?
I’ve been a production supervisor for the last 25 years. I’m close to 50 now so I thought lets tick one thing off the bucket list and go back and get the education I’ve been missing out on and said if not now, when?
What stands out for you about your experience at SETU?
It overall was a stand-out experience adjusting to a different environment and going back to education in general. The lecturers were so welcoming and understanding for me I had a fear of going back to education and I was made feel so welcome from day one it made the whole experience a lot easier.
What changes had coming back to education made to your life?
It’s made me more open in my work environment and applying what I’ve learned in the past year it has made me more open to try new things in the workplace and not being afraid to put my education to use.
What’s your advice for someone considering coming back to education?
Just do it. It’s so rewarding at the end of it all, so just go for it. If you’re like me with a fear of education for so long just take the plunge, I promise you won’t look back.
