Students had the opportunity to apply their marketing knowledge to a real-world situation and to have their recommendations put into practice
WIT BBS (Level 7) students were recently presented with the Credit Union Marketing Project prize.
As part of the assessment for the Fundamentals of Marketing module on the BBS (Level 7) and HCBS programmes students were asked to look at how the Credit Union could better target 18-25 year olds. This initiative was developed through links the School of Business has with the Credit Union.
As part of the assignment, Ann-Marie Drohan, the marketing manager from the Waterford Credit Union, a past student of WIT, delivered a guest lecture on the marketing practices of the Credit Union to the students during Semester 1.
Formal presentation of findings
Once the assessments were completed and the semester finalised, the top three projects were selected and the students from those groups presented their projects and their findings to the Credit Union management team. This was the first time these students were involved in such and event and they did an absolutely incredible job in terms of their presentations and answering the questions asked by the General Manager and Marketing team of the Credit Union. They really did WIT and the School of Business proud. The feedback from the Credit Union was very positive and they were hugely impressed by the students and their ideas and recommendations.
Prizes and recognition
The Credit Union very kindly provided a prize for the winning group/student. The winner of the prize was Georgina Conroy.
The runners up were as follows: Emma O'Connell, Georgia English, Shannon Keohan, Rebecca Long, Lauren Organ, Niamh Teat and Niamh Whitty.
Sinead O'Keeffe, Lecturer in Marketing explains why this competition was important. "This competition gave the students the opportunity to apply their marketing knowledge to a real-world situation and to have their ideas and recommendations put into practice by a large organisation. It also gave the winning groups the opportunity to present their ideas to the management team, giving them invaluable experience."
