Members can apply for SETU's flagship Master of Business Administration (MBA) or on one of the streams on the Master of Business Studies (MBS)
Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) has announced that its graduate business scholarship programme for both male and female county GAA players is open for applications.
WIT School of Business is again providing four postgraduate scholarships in association with the Women’s Gaelic Players Association (WGPA) and the Gaelic Players Association (GPA). The GPA/WGPA Scholarship programme for 2016/17 offers two scholarships for GPA members and two for members of the WGPA. There will be opportunities for individuals to apply for the Institute’s flagship Master of Business Administration (MBA) or on one of the streams on the Master of Business Studies (MBS). County players will have access to facilities at the newly opened SETU Arena as students of SETU.
According to Professor Denis Harrington, head of graduate business, SETU “Students on these programmes develop skills and learn concepts that help in accelerating their careers, serving them throughout their professional lives. Our postgraduate programmes also provide students with an important awareness and exposure to international business ideas, concepts and practices enhancing their career and management prospects with international businesses”.
Sportspeople interested in applying for these programmes can do so via the PAC online (http://www.pac.ie) application system and indicate on the application form that they wish to apply for the GPA/WGPA Postgraduate Business Scholarships. Prospective students are invited to contact the Department of Graduate Business or phone 051 302424.
Dr Aoife Lane, Chairperson of the WGPA and Head of the Department of Health Sport and Exercise Science at SETU noted that county players studying at third level are a particularly important group who are under pressure to progress with their academic studies while managing sporting commitments. “WIT is hugely supportive of top athletes through their scholarship programme and now with this opportunity, are providing unparalleled support for our graduate members to pursue further studies.
WIT is signed up to the athlete friendly institution protocol. The Institute has a fantastic support system for players including its Sports Scholarship programme which supports 60 students annually in managing their various study and playing commitments.
