Having worked with international companies it was clear to John that the next step to be taken in his career path was to undertake an Executive MBA
John Geehan is a SETU graduate from Tipperary. John originally attended and graduated from NUI Galway, before returning to third-level education in 2018 to complete the Executive MBA. He shared some of his experiences with us.
What did you do prior to studying this programme?
I graduated with a BA in Irish and Geography. Shortly thereafter I took up the position of property sales manager with an international property management company based in Dusseldorf, Germany.
After four years of excellent experience, I returned to Ireland and began my employment with a leading global food nutrition company. I currently fulfil the role of German Credit Analyst with the specific focus on the financial integration of business operations.
What was your motivation for doing the Executive MBA programme?
Having worked with international companies, and coupled with my own strong intention to further my formal education, it was clear to me that the next step to be taken in my career path was to undertake an Executive MBA.
How has the Executive MBA programme impacted your career?
Apart from the invaluable academic learning provided by the Executive MBA, the practical application of these lessons to my organisation and the day to day operations of my department were integral in advancing my skill set and business acumen.
I will also highly value the opportunity it afforded me to interact and engage with people of diverse and wide ranging business backgrounds.
What is your advice for adult learners considering this programme?
One of the biggest challenges is making the initial decision to apply. As soon as I commenced the course, I found it to be very enjoyable. The interaction with peers was both valuable and informative, and light relief and support was never far away.
Why would you recommend studying in SETU?
The Executive MBA in SETU is flexible choice for busy professionals. It gives participants great freedom to plan ahead as classes and assignments are scheduled at the start of each semester, so arrangements can be made with employers/family.
