The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants distinguishes Waterford Institute of Technology for its outstanding contribution to the accounting profession
Waterford Institute of Technology announced today that it has won a CIMA Global Excellence Award at the first-ever CIMA Excellence Awards virtual ceremony on 11 December 2020. This CIMA Global Excellence Award recognises university partners that achieved the highest pass rates for CIMA exams.
The CIMA Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding academic partners, tuition providers and students who have made significant contributions to the accounting profession and the Institute over the past year. These awards highlight the high-quality of teaching, research, and learning in accounting education across the world.
Ger Long, Head of Department of Accounting & Economics, at Waterford Institute of Technology, said:
"it's an excellent honour for the institute and particularly shows the high calibre of our accounting students and programs"
Sarah Doyle, CIMA award recipient, Finance business partner at Glanbia Ireland, said:
"I am so proud to have achieved this award, and delighted that WIT have been shortlisted for an Excellence Award as a result. I studied BBS (Hons) with French in WIT from 2013-2017, and firmly believe that my time there set me up for future success. I am very glad to have chosen to study at WIT - the education I received there was second to none both in terms of theoretical and practical learning, and of course, the overall student experience.
Following my time in WIT, I joined Glanbia's graduate programme as an Accounting & Finance associate. I studied to become a CIMA-qualified management accountant as part of the programme - having started out with a total of 12 exams to sit over 3 years, achieving this award was a major boost! I am now fully qualified, having passed my final exam in May 2020. I am currently putting my CIMA exams to good use working as a Finance Business Partner with Glanbia Ireland."
Andrew Harding, FCMA, CGMA, Chief Executive – Management Accounting at The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, commented:
“The CIMA Excellence Awards honour institutions and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the accounting profession and worked tirelessly to enrich their students, providing them with the best possible education and prepare the next generation of accounting professionals. The CIMA Global Excellence Award received by Waterford Institute of Technology is a true testament of its commitment and dedication to building the future of our profession.”
Sponsored by the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, the global accounting organisation formed by CIMA and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the CIMA Excellence Awards will be presented annually to those who have made a difference to the global accounting community, and proactively supported their students towards earning their Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation, the most widely held management accounting designation in the world.
