Brian tells how he started his studies on a Higher Cert, before going on to do a level 7 degree, finally qualifying with a level 8 honours degree
Name: Brian Irish
Courses completed: Higher Cert in Electronic Eng, Diploma in Electronic Eng and BSc in Electronic Eng 1998 to 2003
Current employer: Boston Scientific
Current role: Design Assurance Engineer
I found the path through cert, diploma and degree very beneficial from learning the practical side of the electronics course as well as focusing on the theoretical side and how it linked with industry.
After being on job placement with Intel, I worked there for five years after graduating ensuring the best yields for the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes in the world.
I subsequently joined Boston Scientific in the Quality Engineering group. I currently work in the Design Quality Assurance role alongside research and development personnel investigating how best to design medical products for the most effective usability experience through trials and studies with physicians, and developing a product fully assessed for all risks before launching to the market…and it all started with a Higher Certificate at South East Technological University.
