Five teams of final year Construction Management & Engineering have spent the past 10 weeks participating in the CIOB’s Global Student Challenge

The competition which involves construction students from across the globe utilises an online game to simulate the management of a construction company.  Each team of 4 students is required to assume the role of company directors and make decisions relating to the management of finance, resources, tendering and building projects.  Engagement with the online game provides for a steep learning curve and requires intense collaboration & decision-making between the team members.

Participation in this prestigious competition was sponsored by FESP International, a leading project and cost management company, who are involved in a range of high profile projects across different sectors and locations.  Eoghan Leahy (Director) and Kieran John Clancy (Project & Cost Manager) recently attended WIT to find out about the student’s experiences of participating in the challenge and to present the award to the best performing team from WIT.  DSTA Construction were the clear winners of the challenge, and were worthy recipients of the inaugural FESP International Award for Construction Collaboration.  Team members were: Samantha Webb, Tom Tierney, David Maler and Anthony Malchiodi.  In presenting the awards, Eoghan and Kieran John, who are both graduates of the Construction Management programme at WIT, spoke about the great connections that their company has with WIT, current and emerging opportunities in the industry and the importance of collaboration with all stakeholders in the construction process.

Construction Management & Engineering programme leader Brian Graham thanked FESP International for sponsoring the award and WIT’s participation in the Global Student Challenge and also for their continued support of the programme, particularly in providing invaluable experience for students through Industrial Placement.
