Nigel overwhelmed with job opportunities after completing his course

Engineering

"What really stands out is the smaller classroom numbers. I made great friends over the four years we all helped each other out through the four years."

Nigel Curran says the BSc (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering had lots of precise details and experience including programming a robot for a project

What are you currently doing?
I’m currently working in a factory called Nypro in a town called Bray, Co. Wicklow. I’m a equipment maintenance technician and I maintain the lines for inhalers.

Do you think what you have learned in your time at WIT has prepared you for your job position?
Definitely. The course had lots of precise details and experience. For my fourth year project I got to programme a ABB robot and manufactured it to pick and place objects.

Why did you choose WIT?
I chose WIT because it was local to where I live and it was very convenient for commuting from home. I also had the opportunity to work here in Waterford part-time and gain some experience whilst studying my degree.

What stands out for you about your experience at WIT?
What really stands out is the smaller classroom numbers. I made great friends over the four years we all helped each other out through the four years and there was no competition if someone was stuck with work everyone was there to help you out and give you advice.

What advice would you give someone considering BSc (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering?
I would definitely consider this course as an option. I would study very hard from the start and make sure you get assignments in early in first year when you have the chance because they do build up. Exams are easier then, of course. There is also a lot of job options out there at the moment and a huge demand, since qualifying I have had a lot of people contacting me without even having to apply for a position.

How do you feel about graduating today?
I’m excited to graduate. I’m excited to see what is ahead for technology and engineering of course.
