Support and strength of lecturing staff were a key part in Neddy’s positive experience returning to nursing studies following her diploma in Zimbabwe
Neddy Zvinaiye Nyamukundo is a graduate of the BSc in Nursing Studies in Clinical Practice which is aimed at qualified nurses and registered nurses who have a diploma or equivalent award who seek a primary degree at honours level.
Why did you decide to further your education?
I believe you have to empower yourself. I graduated with a diploma in Zimbabwe and I felt like I could up my skills to be level with the system here in Ireland.
What do you do in your job.
At the moment I am a general nurse but I hope to specialise in paediatrics nursing or as an oncologist.
Did anything help you settle into WIT?
Yes, the lecturers really helped us to go on, they would assist us in every stage on the way so it really gave us courage. When you felt you couldn’t they just helped us in every step. They would advise us. I loved that. The lecturers really helped us to adapt, considering I completed my diploma in Zimbabwe, the health systems and the education systems are quite different but with the help of the tutors they really supported us.
