PMBRC shortlisted for two pharma industry awards

Research centre at WIT nominated for "Research Centre of the Year" and "Research and Development" categories Pharmaceutical Industry Awards 2019

The Pharmaceutical and Molecular Biotechnology Research Centre (PMBRC) at WIT has been shortlisted in two categories for the hotly contested Pharmaceutical Industry Awards 2019.

Celebrating 10 years of operations in 2019, the PMBRC has established itself as a leading research centre in the pharmaceutical, chemical and biologicals sciences in Ireland. Situated on the main WIT campus, the centre supports R&D activities within the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, while simultaneously cultivating an innovative research programme at WIT.

Demonstrating excellence

The awards recognise and celebrate the most original and innovative individuals and organisations that demonstrate excellence in the Irish Pharma sector. The PMBRC has been shortlisted in the “Research Centre of the Year” and “Research and Development Achievement” categories.

Speaking of the news, PMBRC Manager Dr Niall O'Reilly said: “The past 12 months have been an exciting period for us here with major European funding awards, infrastructural investment, a significant increase in researcher numbers and publications in international peer reviewed journals The nominations recognise the overall performance of our centre and the quality of our research in particular. We are delighted to be shortlisted for the Pharma Industry Awards this year.”

Multidisciplinary team

The centre, one of 15 Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateways, consists of an 800m2 state-of-the-art research facility. The PMBRC has grown each year and currently employs 7 full-time staff and 18 postgraduate students, with a further 16 members of academic staff leading research within the centre. A truly multidisciplinary team, researchers in the PMBRC include chemists, biologists, biomedical scientists, physicists and engineers, and the centre has established links with national and international partners in industry, academia and medical care institutions.

The awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, 24 October at the Citywest Hotel, Dublin.
