Clodagh explains her level 6 to level 8 progression strategy

"In a way you have two degrees instead of just the one."

Torn between doing a law course and a business course Clodagh did a level 6 course so she had the chance to choose another course after two years

Clodagh Fitzgerald of Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary graduated with a BA (Hons) in Legal Studies with Business

Why Legal Studies?
I did my level 6 in Legal Studies, my level 7 in Legal Studies and the level 8 in Legal Studies with Business in WIT. I was torn between doing a law course and a business course so when I realised I could do a level six and work upwards to see if I liked it I could always fall back and go on to do a different course but I progressed on with it because I enjoyed it.

Why did you choose WIT?
I chose WIT because it was convenient and a few of my friends were here and they said it was a great college.

Any advice for someone considering this course?
It is an in depth course but if you stick with it the result of having both the legal side and business side your options are much broader when you go out to look for a career in it. In a way you have two degrees instead of just the one.

Experience in WIT?
The lecturers know you, the class sizes aren’t huge. If you went to a university you wouldn’t get the one on one time you do with your lectures. I used to be a very shy person, now I can stand up more and talk to people. The course broadened my intellectuality, I know the difference between I can't do this and I can do this. It is great to be able to sit down and have a conversation with like minded people.

What are you doing now?
Now I am leaning more towards the business side, so I am looking to go down the route of becoming a legal financial advisor so both subjects tie in.
