Lecturers in English at Waterford Institute of Technology continue to expand their suite of study guides for Leaving Cert students.
Othello, which is one of the prescribed texts for the State exams in 2022, is the latest addition to a suite of study guides that academics at WIT have prepared specifically for secondary school students studying Shakespeare.
The series of Shakespeare study guides so far includes: 2021 Leaving Cert prescribed plays King Lear, the Tempest, Hamlet (2020); and Macbeth.
The guides have been written by WIT academics some of whom lecture on the BA (Hons) Arts which has majors and minors in both English, and Theatre Studies.
Exam preparation
“WIT is delighted to share these study guides,” says Dr Suzanne Denieffe, Head of the School of Humanities at WIT. “It is hoped that the guides will serve as a platform for further study for students and a useful resource for secondary education teachers.”
The guides are designed to support students in their autonomous learning and secondary research in preparation for their exams. "Students need support and encouragement more than ever this year and we hope that these study guides will supplement their day-to-day learning and help them engage with the text from a range of perspectives" says Dr Christa de Brún, Lecturer in English Literature, WIT.
