Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) are delighted to announce a 100% full-time professional employment rate for students on completion of the Masters of Science in Global Financial Information Systems (GFIS) offered by the School of Business.
The MSc in GFIS received its first intake of students in September 2012, and following completion of the 16 month programme in December 2013, which includes a 6 month Professional Internship, all of the graduates have secured full-time employment. The majority of the students are employed in graduate roles such as Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Risk Analyst, FIS Analyst, Operations Analyst, Business Operations Executive; for companies such as IBM, Kerry Group, Glanbia, The Central Bank, Bank of Ireland, Sunlife Financial Services, Citco, Ernst & Young, EBS, AON Centre for Innovation and Analytics, FCOS, DePuy Synthes (J&J), Fingal County Council, and Colgate Palmolive. In a positive sign of recovery in the Irish economy, 87% of these positions are permanent while 13% are contract positions. The MSc in GFIS was also shortlisted as Best New Course of the Year at the Postgrad Ireland Awards held at the Mansion House, Dublin in April 2013.
The Masters of Science in Global Financial Information Systems was developed in response to the current and future demand from the Financial Services (FS) industry, for hybrid finance-technology graduates with a specific focus on the application of ICT to Financial Services. Developed in conjunction with a number of FS companies from Ireland and the UK, the objective of the MSc in GFIS is to enable high calibre graduates to rapidly develop quantitative, analytical, and ICT skills and experience, embedded in a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Financial Services.
Graduates from the MSc in GFIS can also apply for the numerous highly reputable professional graduate training programmes offered by a multitude of companies in the Financial Services industry including PWC, Deloitte, E&Y, KPMG, AIB, BOI, Morgan Stanley, BNY Mellon, Accenture, BDO, State Street, Citi, etc. Graduates also have the possibility of applying to the financial management, accounting, and payment services divisions of global ICT companies based in Ireland including EBay, PayPal, Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon, EMC, Microsoft, IBM, VMware, Dell, HP, etc. A graduate may also apply for further Post-Graduate Level 10 studies, such as a PhD by Research in WIT, or to other third level institutions, either nationally or internationally. The delivery of key ICT skills through Financial Information Systems modules and six months Professional Internship underlines the uniqueness of this programme offering in Ireland and internationally.
