Scholarship student Meighan Farrell, graduate of the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies shares the benefits of a scholarship and student life in WIT
GAA All Star winner, Meighan Farrell studied the BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies during her time in WIT. The scholarship student who has numerous titles to her name graduated in November 2017.
Life as a graduate
Meighan is currently working in a Montessori school in Kilkenny having completed her degree. She describes placement as one of the most important parts of her time in WIT. For Meighan, placement was a place to gain experience and knowledge preparing her for a job when she finished college. “Placement was really good as it showed me what I would get to do in the real world. I felt this was important in the career I was going into.”
Sport study balance
Meighan is well known for lining out on the Kilkenny camogie teams with her sisters, Anna and Shelly. She had the pleasure of being captain to the Kilkenny minors leading them to victory with an All-Ireland title. Meighan has won a senior All Ireland title, two national leagues and two senior All Stars with Kilkenny.
During her time in college Meighan played on the WIT camogie team winning an Ashbourne Cup title. She also went on to receive an Ashbourne All Star that same year.
As a scholarship student it can be hard to balance sport, studies and student life. In WIT scholarship student supports are put in place so students can achieve the best possible results during their time here. “Make use of all the support you get from the scholarship. The grinds are there to benefit you and help you achieve the best degree you can get.”
So what advice does Meighan have when it comes to filling out the scholarship application form? “Boost yourself up in the application make yourself sound like the best person you could ever be because you are competing against so many other people.”
Meighan’s fondest memories in WIT were “Having fun with the camogie girls and the training sessions, always having a laugh and making new friends through the team.”
