The 'Building a Business on your Ideas' Patent seminar was held in WIT on Wednesday 8th June. This seminar was a great learning opportunity for those who wanted to turn their ideas into viable enterprises and who wanted to ensure that intellectual property rights were not overlooked when developing a business strategy.
The seminar was aimed at the ‘small business’ community, entrepreneurs and inventors and jointly organised by the Patents Office and Waterford Institute of Technology, in cooperation with Enterprise Ireland and the Waterford Local Enterprise Office.The seminar focused on how business should be aware of and could exploit the value of Intellectual Property (Patents, Trade Marks, Designs and Copyright) and also the support structures that are available for small businesses and start-ups from the State and Europe.
Speakers on the day included David Hyde – Patents Office, Richie Walsh - Waterford Local Enterprise Office, Alan Casey - Patent Attorney, FRKelly, local Entrepreneur David Sheehan - Fastform Research Medical Devices Company, Barry Fennell – KTI, Enterprise Ireland and James O’Sullivan - Technology Transfer Office,Waterford Institute of Technology.
