Angela Collins, Head of Careers at WIT recently won The Employability Award at this year’s Grad Ireland ceremony. These awards are very much admired in the careers world.
Angela won for her careers initiative “Building and Engineering Your Career” which was developed in partnership with the School of Engineering. The main aim of this project was to boost the employability and confidence of students in Engineering.
It was commended for “showing strong leadership for a dynamic careers service. Integrated into an academic framework and delivering an employment rate of 96% for participants, this is a best -in-class programme.”
Angela gave a big thank you to “all the WIT Engineering students and graduates who so fully engaged in this initiative, to the academic staff in the School of Engineering for their support and co-operation, to Ann Power for her creative work on the poster and photos and to Dr Ken Thomas who was very encouraging and open to embedding this initiative within the school. I would like to give a very special thank you to Sinead English who has supported and helped with this initiative from the very beginning. Last but not least my colleagues in the Careers Centre, Annette White, Sorcha Walshe and Laura Sheahan (a student on work placement) who worked so hard behind the scene to make this initiative a success.”
