An interest in event management attracted Clara to study a four-year degree in hospitality management which will give her useful experience for her future career
Clara Bell is a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Hospitality Management student and a past pupil of Presentation Secondary School Wexford. She is a WIT President’s Scholarship recipient.
I wanted to study this course at WIT because:
I want to go into event management when I graduate college and by doing this course in WIT I get to learn all about the hospitality, tourism and events industries which I know will stand to me in my future career. This course also is a very practical course from accommodation studies in a local hotel to food and beverage service to front desk and so much more throughout the four years. This is also a big factor why I chose this course as I learn by doing just as much as in a lecture or classroom.
My advice for CAO applicants to this course:
I would say be prepared for both the practical and academic aspects of the course to be just as important as each other throughout the four years. To make sure that the hospitality, tourism, events or general management industry is something you have an interest in and can see as your future career. To know that the lecturers that teach this course are extremely helpful and are always there to aid you in your learning and anything else you may need. The classes in this course usually do not have as many students as other course therefore you and your fellow classmates will get to know each other very well and can learn a lot from each other.
The highlights of my college experience include:
There are many great things that have made my experience in WIT amazing so far including being awarded the Presidents Scholarship from WIT for the four years of my course, different events from the WIT Students’ Union, day trips with my course to 5-star hotels, becoming the class rep for my class, experiencing life away from home and living with friends and making new friends both in my course and other courses throughout my first year in college.
Why I would recommend studying in Waterford:
I would recommend WIT to any student applying to the CAO as they offer so much to every student from academic supports (learning disability supports), clubs and societies to join, different activities and events on campus, student supports, huge range of courses to suit different types of people and there learning and amazing on campus facilities.
My favourite module:
My favourite module so far in my first year in WIT is Food and Beverage Service. I really enjoy this as I love learning in a practical way and am learning so much in this class from the basics of food service to advanced 5-star service. We get to serve real customers in our service class held in Seasons Restaurant in the Tourism and Leisure Building. We learn about different food and beverages to go with different occasions and events and get to work alongside the culinary arts students studying in WIT.
