Zeta Dooly, researcher with the Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG) and resident of Tramore (Co. Waterford), was recently awarded her DBA in WIT
Following her Leaving Certificate with Star of the Sea Secondary School, Tramore (Co. Waterford), Zeta’s path to doctoral level has seen her gather a number of awards, including a Bachelor of Business Studies, Master of Business Studies (by research), and an MBA in Teaching and Learning.
“My DBA has given me a wider perspective of research where I already work and has launched new opportunities and options that I am currently pursuing.”
Zeta has worked in the software industry for many years, starting in Ericsson, then moving to Westpac Bank Australia, before returning to Ireland to work with a Dublin-based start-up company Nua Publish. Her path back to Waterford came about by way of an opportunity to work with Sun Life Financial, which then led to her current position with the TSSG.
Always passionate about links between technology and society, Zeta’s research with the TSSG allowed her to work on cybersecurity, intelligent software systems, technology platforms, and examine the citizen-centric impact. She has both led and contributed to many initiatives with local and national companies and internationally dispersed virtual teams. Additionally, she has gained excellent experience working with the European Commission for over 13 years.
Her DBA thesis, “An Investigation of Social and Economic Aspects of Structural Embeddedness in an ICT Research Network Based in the European Union”, was completed with WIT’s School of Business, under the supervision of Dr Aidan Duane (WIT) and Prof Aidan O’Driscoll (DIT). The thesis investigated the social and economic aspects of an ICT network that linked aquaculture and technology research. It looked at the nature of relationships, links and nodes within the network and gave deep insights about the impact different aspects had on the research.
When asked about a key takeaway from her experience, Zeta said, “My experience has hugely benefited my knowledge about life, society, research and economics. Prioritising the time needed to learn more is time well spent.”
In addition to her continuing research work with the TSSG, Zeta also lectures on 2 modules within the School of Business, BA (Hons) Marketing & Digital Web Design year 3 and Print Media Advertising Year 2 and has lectured within the School of Science and Computing, Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Computing (BSc) Year 1 Introduction to Cloud Computing.
