New programmes
Certificate in Basic Cognitive Behavioural Skills for Practice
The course is designed to allow health and social care professionals to develop the requisite knowledge, skills and understanding to safely and appropriately apply cognitive behavioural skills into their everyday practice. The programme is primarily aimed at nurses and midwives but is also open to other professionals who provide psychosocial interventions to service users as part of their day to day work. Read more

A Certificate in Healthcare Support was delivered with the support of Waterford Chamber Skillnet
The SETU Certificate in Healthcare Support aims to develop an individual who is able to use their knowledge and skills to provide appropriate and safe healthcare support in a variety of health care situations and contexts.The development of practical hands on care skills is an integral part of this course and will prepare the student to work in areas including care of the older adult, intellectual disability settings, acute care settings and long term care facilities. MSc in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Motivational Interviewing for Practice programme
The new MSc in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Motivational Interviewing for Practice programme was approved and will commence in January 2016. The Masters of Science in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) for Practice programme is an 18 month programme that arises from a requirement for health and social care professionals to provide effective evidenced based interventions for a range of health and social problems. The programme is of particular interest to those working in health related fields including mental health nursing, social care, addiction services and voluntary organisations. Read more
Conferences and workshops
The Department Annual Nursing Conference took place in December. A Changing Workforce for 21st Century Health Care - Challenges and Solutions’ on 10 December gave patients, the public and health care professionals the opportunity to hear solutions to the shortage of health care professionals. Predominantly aimed at healthcare professionals, it featured speakers from all aspects of the healthcare system including Mr Liam Doran, General Secretary, INMO as well as speakers from academia in the UK and US. The Department hosted a very successful Experience Based Co-design workshop delivered by Professor Glenn Robert, Kings College London, an international expert on this topic. - Read more
Waterford Chamber Healthy Aging Conference took place in conjunction with the Department on the 29th October, chaired by Dr Paula Lane.

Student achievements
Congratulations to our 3rd year Psychiatry Nursing Student Laura Brennan on being named on the Electric Ireland Third Level Team of the Year,. Laura plays with the Rathnure club and is a member of the Wexford Senior Camogie. Team Maith thú Laura
BSc in Applied Health Care student Jonathan O’Donnell won the SETU Solve- It competition 2015 and went on the represent SETU at the National competition for his proposed app. - Read more
