ELSA WIT (European Law Students Association of Waterford Institute of Technology) travelled to Brussels this week to visit the European Parliament and the Parliamentarium.
ELSA WIT President, Jade Power, and ELSA WIT VP AA, Seamus Hempenstall, worked alongside ELSA DCU President, Denise Roche, and ELSA DCU VP AA, Sarah Redmond, in organising the educational visit.
The trip saw 20 of the ELSA WIT members join 19 ELSA DCU members in Brussesls, Belgium, for a number of days. Whilst there, the law students were invited to visit the ELSA House where they met ELSA International Boards Members, Lauri Vehemaki (ELSA International Treasurer) and Dariia Oliinyk ( ELSA International VP STEP).
The students also enjoyed a day of sight-seeing, when they visited a number of amazing attractions including: Manneken Pis statue; the Palais de Justice; Cathedrale Sts Michel et Gudule; and the Grand Place square.
This was the first time WIT law students and DCU law students participated in a trip of its kind, and with the success of it both colleges hope to work together in the future. The idea of ELSA as ‘all different, all together’ was a factor in the organising of this trip as the visit included ELSA Members from different law based courses, such as Criminal Justice students; LL.B. students; and also Law with Business students.
ELSA WIT is also looking forward to celebrating ELSA Day on November 26th 2014, and will be hosting a guest speaker to talk about the proposed Gay Marriage Bill.
