Graduates of the full-time and part-time postgraduate diploma work in further education roles such as PLCs, Youthreach, VTOS and Back to Education
Applications are now being accepted for the Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching in Further Education, a professional teaching qualification, which is accredited by the Teaching Council of Ireland.
The programme (available both full-time and part-time) is designed to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and competencies required to teach in a variety of settings in the Further Education and Training (FET) sector.
Knowledge, skills and confidence
“While many of our students are initially attracted by the fact that our programme is accredited by the Teaching Council, what they get out of it ultimately is so much more than 'just' the capacity to register as teachers. They develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to go out and teach in a wide variety of further and adult education settings, and the placements help them find their own particular niche in what is a very diverse sector. They learn with and from classmates from a wide range of discipline areas and their class group becomes a community of practice that supports them and their ongoing learning long after they graduate,” says Dr Carol O’Byrne, Programme Leader.
Graduates currently work on a range of different FET programmes, including: Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) programmes, Youthreach, Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) and Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) programmes, as well as in community education contexts and on both accredited and non-accredited adult education programmes.
