One quarter of the Irish Youth Chamber Choir (IYCC) who are headed to Toronto for Bloomsday festival are former students of the WIT Music School
As part of Bloomsday June 2016 the Irish Youth Chamber Choir will travel to Tornoto, Canada for a series of performances, including sharing the stage with the world renonwed Toronto Children's Chorus. The 24-piece choir were selected from almost 100 singers who participated in the Irish Youth Choir last summer. With such a strong tradition of music and choirs in Waterford it is not surprising that six of the members are former students of the Music School's Choral Programme.
Alumni of the Choral Programme, Emma Power, told us what it means to her and the group: "I'm delighted and humbled to be given such a wonderful opportunity as a member of the Irish Youth Chamber Choir. The chance to travel to Canada and represent Ireland through music with friends is a beautiful thing - made ever more so by the fact that so many of us have been singing together since our time in the WIT Choral Programme. In truth, I'm most honoured to be representing the strong choral tradition of Waterford - with such a large portion of the choir being Déise folk - something we are very quick in reminding our peers. It's all very exciting!"
The choir, which is run by the Association of Irish Choirs, is currently promoting a Fundit drive to complete their fundraisng for the tour. For those who wish to donate please click on the following link.
