Master chefs in the making at WIT

Humanities

Monday 16 April 2012: The Department of Languages, Tourism and Hospitality held their annual awards ceremony in Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) recently.

There were 18 different awards recognising the individual talents of the students who have excelled in various courses within the department, and included hospitality operations and professional cookery. The awards combined Department trophies and prizes sponsored by local businesses.

When the invited guests arrived at the WIT Tourism and Leisure building they were treated to some unique sculptures by students of the Professional Cookery courses which featured designs carved from butter and sugar.

This warm welcome was followed by lunch, prepared by the students of Professional Cookery Year 2 under the guidance of Chef Edward Hayden, and served by the Restaurant Management students under the guidance of lecturer Vicki Kenny.

Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Pat Hayes, who attended the Awards Ceremony, was delighted at the way the students combined to organise the event using their individual talents.
