The aim of the programme was to highlight remarkable people who demonstrate the ability to make Irish society a better place
Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) recently held a President’s Scholarship ceremony for its 2020 and 2021 recipients.
Altogether nine students were awarded scholarships.
The scholarship scheme has been running since September 2016 and encourages and rewards young people who show a capacity to shape a better society.
Each year, since then, up to five exceptional young students have been awarded scholarships with a total value of up to €12,000. Each President’s Scholar receives a bursary of €2,000 per year of study along with €500 per semester.
The President’s Scholarship programme had sought applications from individuals with attributes such as being creative, innovators, leaders, or people who make significant contributions to community. The aim of the programme was to highlight remarkable people who demonstrate the ability to make Irish society a better place.
WIT President Prof Willie Donnelly in his speech had praise for the recipients and the important role models in their lives. “I would like to acknowledge the contribution that our latest scholars have made to their communities which makes them deserving recipients the President Scholarship award. I would also like to recognise the role of the student’s parents, their teachers and second level school community in supporting their development as community leaders.”
