Interested in working in social media? Graduate Orla Hayes recommends keeping up to date with trends and contacting lecturers with your course queries
Orla Hayes from Waterford City is a past pupil of the Mercy Secondary School in Waterford and was Marketing student of the year 2017 and is working as a digital marketing executive in Waterford City. We spoke to her on conferring day 2017.
Why did you choose your course?
At first I hadn’t an iota what I wanted to do but from going to open days and meeting lecturers and getting an insight into what marketing actually is I decided to go ahead with Marketing, Advertising and Digital Media. It’s probably one of the best decisions I have ever had because it gives you a wide variety of different business elements and I have really enjoyed that part of it.
What area do you love the most?
I love the digital side of it – digital marketing, digital media, anything social media, that’s one of my biggest interests and one thing that drew me to the course. While some courses have marketing elements and traditional marketing, this course gave you the chance to explore the online side and the social media side.
Advice for someone interested in studying these disciplines?
If you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask people who are running the course or actual lecturers as everyone is really approachable in WIT. If you have questions about the course contents or questions about social media and are happy to help. Also keep up to date with social media trends because a lot of what you will see in the media is actually what you will study.
