On Friday 30th November 2012, Mr. Declan Byrne, President of the Bartenders Association of Ireland, made a presentation to a group of students at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) drawn from courses within the Department of Languages, Tourism and Hospitality which is headed by Mr. Ray Cullen.
The aim of the presentation was to introduce students to the Bartenders Association of Ireland (BAI), the International Bartenders Association (IBA) and the Irish Guild of Sommelliers (IGS) and discuss the benefits of joining such licensed trade associations. Students were invited to become BAI members and encouraged to attend and compete at the National Cocktail Competition to be held at CATEX, 19th-21st February 2013.
Mr. Eoin O'Neill from Butlerstown, Co. Waterford, who completed the Higher Certificate in Arts in Hospitality Studies at WIT, also spoke at the event. Eoin spoke of his personal experiences attending the International Bartenders Association training course in Italy earlier this year which was sponsored by Edward Dillon & Co. Ltd and how the association has helped him progress his learning and networking. Eoin, who bartends at Kazbar in Waterford as part of his work experience, is a member of the Bartenders Association of Ireland.
Following the presentation by the BAI members, Tony Quinlan, Lecturer in Tourism and Hospitality at the Institute, thanked the Bartenders Association of Ireland for coming to WIT and hoped that they would consider a return visit next year.
