The scholarship scheme, which had its first cohort in 2016, encourages and rewards young people who show a capacity to shape a better society
Lauren English Adams, a past pupil of FCJ, Bunclody, Co Wexford is one of five first year students at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) to be awarded a President’s Scholarship.
In her scholarship application the BA (Hons) Health Promotion student outlined how she had the potential to shape future society.
“Throughout my life in secondary school I have got involved in many extra-curricular activities due to my desire to help and guide others for example the Student Council. In fifth year I was one of the chosen candidates in our school to go to Lourdes as a youth volunteer. With sixth year at an end I set my sights on my next adventure the ’Cara projects’. I feel very proud to have been selected as a successful applicant. This summer I will travel to Kenya to help women and children develop personal values, self-worth and independence.
Lauren explains why she applied for the President’s Scholarship: “I believe it is fair to say that I display characteristics and skills to be a role model in WIT. I like that WIT has provided me with great support and the chance to be involved in so many societies and displayed influential devotion to the students ”
The first year student says her dreams for the future include: “To further my potential with the aid of the college and health promotion course to make significant contributions to our societies.”
Next stop for Lauren is two months in Kenya this summer with charity Cara Projects.
