Six RDS appointed curators reviewed all 2020 entries and have longlisted the following artists to go forward to the next stage of the competition
Two recent WIT Visual Art graduates Susie Kelly and Marika Miklosi Manning have been longlisted for this year prestigious RDS Visual Art Awards.
The RDS Visual Art Awards provides supports and exposure for graduating Irish visual artists and normally consists of two parts; a competition and an exhibition. The Covid-19 pandemic has meant that it will not have a physical exhibition this year, but the competition aspect of the Awards will still take place. This year only, all final year graduating artists from BA and MA visual art-based courses were eligible to apply. Winners will be decided by the judging panel and announced in December.
Longlisted
Six RDS appointed curators reviewed all 2020 entries and have longlisted the following artists to go forward to the next stage of the competition.
Susie Kelly said of the award: “"It is a huge honour to have been selected for this year's RDS Visual Arts Awards longlist. The privilege of receiving guidance and support from the committed, professional artists who lecture in WIT's Visual Art Department has been transformative. Thank you."
And Marika Miklosi Manning said of hearing of her selection for the award: “The good news of being longlisted came at a time of great sadness, due to the recent death of my husband. Being longlisted gives a sense of recognition to my project and I hope that others may benefit from my work. Researching and making the human inner organs helped me to overcome a fear of anatomy and to understand medical procedures during my husband’s illness.”
The Visual Art lecturing staff at WIT want to congratulate them both on this massive achievement and to wish them all the best with their future creative life beyond WIT.
