Secondary school students interested in going to college got a taste of a variety of business disciplines at the School of Business Try Business Event
An important step in choosing any career path is pursuing something you enjoy. To help prospective students with their CAO choices WIT’s Try Business Event gave secondary school students the opportunity to try out a range of business disciplines to help them figure out which area of focus is for them.
Interactive workshops and competitions
Throughout the day the students engaged in a variety of workshops based around a number of business related disciplines including accounting, finance, enterprise and social media marketing.
The workshops were designed around fun and interactive tasks that also had real world applicability. For example the finance workshop engaged students in a game of ‘Deal or No Deal’ to help develop their understanding around the concepts of risk investor behaviour, probability and decision making.
After the students built a better understanding around the concepts of business, they engaged in a number of competitions to win prizes by using their social media marketing skills and knowledge to generate enterprise ideas and profit through accounting.
A valuable experience
A total of 65 students from varying schools gained some valuable insight into the world of business and the different areas of which they can specialise in within their academic pursuits. The event received great feedback with one student reporting that they enjoyed the event immensely and are grateful for the great experience.
