How has your studies at WIT helped you to get where you are today?
They have helped me significantly by preparing for the professional through enhancing my technical skills as well as my communication skills which helped me secure a job before finishing my final year exams.
Did your work placement / internship or contact with the Careers Office help get you to where you are now?
Yes, the company that I am currently working for gave a presentation in the auditorium about their graduate project manager program. Also the interview and CV skills classes with Angela Collins really helped with confidence when attending interviews.
Why did you choose your course/ to study at WIT/ study in Waterford?
I always had an interest in engineering from a young age and the Sustainable Energy Engineering Course offered here in WIT really caught my attention from the get go. Also, I personally knew a couple of students that were currently studying the course and from their guidance and recommendations I decided to study here at WIT.
What advice would you give to students considering your course?
Sustainable Energy is an up and coming industry with phenomenal job and further research opportunities for graduates.
What advice would you give to those unsure of college or of what course to pick?
Try and get in contact with current students in the course(s) that you are considering and try and find out what they think of the course and see does it suit your career path!
Did your course include work placement/internship/study abroad?
Yes. I undertook my industrial work placement in Bausch & Lomb Waterford. During my time in Bausch & Lomb I worked in the facilities engineering department and I was involved in a large array of energy related projects with the standout being their 3.3MW CHP installation.
Did you recieve any awards during your time at WIT?
In was nominated for the Winthrop Dissertation Awards for my dissertation "Energy Efficient Chilled Water Systems' which was completed on a chilled water system in Bausch & Lomb Wateroford. The dissertations aim was to try and reduce the energy consumed by chilled water systems without affecting the output of the chillers.
