Graduate of the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching & Performance degree at WIT, Jennifer Dempsey

Sports Coaching & Performance graduate Jennifer, praises the practical elements and placement of the degree which has helped her in her journey

“I chose this course because all my life I’ve been involved in coaching and gymnastics. I coach the Enniscorthy athletics club and I’m working in Excel in Celbridge, Co. Kildare which is a gymnastics club.”

Work placement

“I really enjoyed all the practical bits and my placement was brilliant. I spent the 9-month work placement in Belfast in Jordanstown. I was working as an assistant development officer, the lecturers at WIT had plenty of contacts and found what was in Belfast would suit me best.”

Performance & progression

“I’ve been very lucky, I’ve gone straight into work but in the long term I’d like to go down the performance route and work with an Olympic team.”

“The course was great as it was very individual to each of us. We were able to tailor it to ourselves and we progressed. Now, I have so much knowledge that a lot of gymnast coaches wouldn’t have.”
