Erin Nolan from Youghal Co Cork, is a past pupil of Pobalscoil na Tríonóide, Youghal, Co Cork and is a current student in the Business Recreation and Sport Management course in WIT. Erin was involved in sport and won many medals in awards throughout secondary school.
What attracted you to study at Waterford Institute of Technology?
Hearing great reviews from current and previous students in Waterford institute of Technology attracted me to study there.
What was your motivation for choosing this course?
I have an interest in sports and coaching. They have been a key part of my life. This course provided not only sporting opportunities but a business degree as well which I felt was versatile.
What have you done in life prior to studying here?
I have completed a QQI FETAC level 5 in sports, Recreation and Exercise. I have completed NTC Fitness Instructor & personal trainer EQF level 4.
What words of advice do you have for new students?
Try to find the right balance between college work and having fun. Always show up to classes and get involved. Try to take part in extracurricular activities to meet new people and make new friends. Just make the most of your time in college because it flies by.
What have been the highlights of your college experience?
The highlights of first year were getting to know so many amazing lecturers, making new friendships in the course and just the overall experience of learning and participating in new subjects.
How did you manage your work life study balance?
While in college I worked on weekends and I found it hard to balance everything. But I think one thing that helped was using the free time in college for example the breaks between classes to go to the library to get work done. The library is a great place to focus and not get distracted.
How has this course helped your career development?
This course so far has helped by how diverse it is between coaching, business and learning about recreation in the world. It allows for many career opportunities and opens a lot of doors in the industry. I have grown in confidence and knowledge all round
