Workshops and in-house competitions are some of the main reasons why Shareen enjoyed her time studying BIM Technology at WIT
Shereen is from Wexford and is a past pupil of Gorey Community School, Gorey, Co Wexford and studied the BSc in Architectural and Building Information Modelling Technology.
I wanted to study Bachelor of Science Architectural & Building Information Modelling Technology at SETU because:
I always wanted to be able to design and the course I chose not only teaches how to design a building but also how to understand one and all the small, necessary details that makes it function. Bachelor of Science Architectural & Building Information Modelling Technology at SETU not only teaches the ‘science of building’ but it also teaches how to create real-world construction drawings and how they are implemented then in offices, on site and in general practices.
Some of the highlights of my college experience at SETU include:
Taking part in the Tri-Varsity interdisciplinary BIM workshop two years in a row. This is a weeklong competition between South East Technological University (WIT), Sheffield Hallam University, England (SHU), Copenhagen School of Design and Technology, Denmark (KEA) where students are put into mixed groups and design a buildings architectural, structural and mechanical design to fit a given brief. Connecting with students in different parts of the world highlighted for me the vast opportunities within my course and my future degree.
Why I would recommend studying in Waterford/WIT:
I would recommend studying at South East Technological University as course sizes are small and there is a greater one-on-one learning experience to be achieved from it. From my experience, my lecturers have been very involved with the class and are willing to aid students in any way possible whenever they can.
My advice for anyone considering the Bachelor of Science Architectural & Building Information Modelling Technology course is:
My advice to incoming students would be to be open to get involved in as many things as possible as it makes the college experience worthwhile and not be afraid to ask older students and lectures any questions as they are willing to do anything they can to help you. I would also advise students who are looking to get a laptop to seek advice from students doing the course / the lecturers as to which would be best suited for the course as the software used can be very large.
