'Facilitating Friendships' was a great success, helping students make friends and ease anxieties about starting college
The Department of Nursing and Health Care recognises the difficulty of settling into college and meeting new people, especially post COVID. In order to help first years settle in, lecturing staff in the Department of Nursing and Health Care devised a new programme called 'Facilitating Friendships'.
This programme was run for Nursing, Applied Healthcare and Common Entry programmes within the department. The two day event was a great success with students saying it helped them make friends and ease anxieties about starting college.
Students engaged in the many activities such as team building exercises, yoga, a scavenger hunt and a presentation was given on the STeMM app which helps moderate anxiety and stress. Prizes for both days were kindly donated by Home Instead, Lidl, Relate Care, snap fitness 24/7 and City Square Shopping Centre.
The Department of Nursing and Health care aims to continue to provide on-going support for our students as we re-establish social norms post pandemic.
