Guest speaker from Burren Ecotourism Network “set an amazing example and standard for culinary students going forth into the tourism sector”
Culinary Arts students at WIT’s School of Humanities recently welcomed a guest speaker from the Burren Ecotourism Network.
CEO of the Burren Ecotourism Network Jarlath O’Dwyer was invited to speak to second year students of the BA (Hons) in Culinary Arts course as part of the Food, Energy & Sustainability module.
Engaging presentation
“It was my great pleasure to present to a wonderful group of Culinary Arts Students at the Waterford Institute of Technology this week. The presentation focused on the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Global Geopark Code of Sustainable Tourism Practices, and the back story of the Burren Ecotourism Network. The group were led by lecturer Jacinta Greene Beatty, and the presentation was followed by a very engaging Q&A session. I always love speaking with student groups because of the great creativity and questions that follow,” he said.
Guest lecture
The guest lecture was organised by Jacinta Greene Beatty. She praised the insight that students gained from the talk. “One student commented that the theory in food, energy and sustainability was hammered home through the story of B.E.N. I am sure that where ever these great students find themselves they will bring the message that sustainability means profitability which is equally as important.”
Positive feedback
Lauren Butler commented that she really enjoyed seeing the great work that The Burren Ecotourism Network is doing. “You have set an amazing example and standard for all of us going forth into the tourism sector. Thank you again for coming and talking to us.”
