What attracted you to study at Waterford Institute of Technology? The WIT open days have been a great help to me when making my final decision about where I want to study. Talking to lecturers and students who are already doing the course gave me a deep insight into what it would be like studying at WIT. The relatively small community within the college was an aspect that also appealed to me and which made the transition from secondary school easier. WIT offers a wide range of activities/societies outside the academic area which give you a chance to take a break from your studies, which I found quite appealing. |
Did you always know this was the course you wanted to do? Yes, architecture was always a course which I thought that I would like to pursue. However it's quite a specific field of study which is hard to experience before starting college to make sure that it is definitely for you, so I did have a plan B just in case but after first few months in college I knew I made the right decision. |
What words of advice do you have for new students? If you are considering Waterford give it a fair chance. From my experience so far I would definitely recommend it. I would definitely attend open days as I think they give you an opportunity to talk to lecturers and students in the course who give you specific information about what you specifically want to know about. Events like 'Try Architecture Day' and others are also a great way to get a better idea of the college life. Get involved and enjoy your years in college as they fly by. |
What have been the highlights of your college experience? Besides the academic side, the highlight was definitely the people I met in college, I can easily say that I have made friends for life. Many social events and trips which were organised by societies and the college itself were also a great addition to my college experience. |
What did you like about Waterford as a city to live in/to study in? I think Waterford is a nice city with a great atmosphere for prospective students. It's vibrant with quite a few attractions just around the corner. I find that it is not too big but also not too small - there are many events going on all the time, which give you a chance to meet people and socialise. |
How did this add to your college experience? The trips abroad which had a direct link with the projects we were doing or just class trips were definitely a huge plus. Especially in a course like architecture seeing different countries and cities and meeting other architects gives another dimension to what we learn in theory in class. All this combined made me definitely more involved in the college life and helped me develop even more as a person throughout my years in college. |
