The life of a business student

Business

Student: Adam Roylance

Course: Bachelor of Business (Hons)

I hadn’t a clue what I wanted to do right up until the end of 6th year. I changed my CAO more times than I can even remember, but I always had an interest in Business while growing up.

I’d always followed shows like the Apprentice and Dragons Den, so I guess it was a bit of a gamble, but in the end it was a gamble that worked out for me – I’m currently in my third year of the Bachelor of Business (Hons) course and absolutely loving it!

The first two years of the BBS degree are very broad – you’ll touch on almost all areas of business ranging from Communications to Management and from Accounting to Marketing. In third year you get the chance branch off into whichever area you enjoyed the most.

Also in third year, you get the chance to study abroad or go on a work placement. I chose the latter and am currently on placement in the Marketing Department within the college. I’m involved in a range of projects including working on the new college website, designing the college prospectus and even this e-zine. This has been an invaluable experience into the real world ofmarketing and it is certainly something that’ll stand out on a CV.

Other students on my course have been placed in companies such as State Street, Zurich Insurance and Citi Bank.

There’s also the option to study abroad - many of my friends have gone to Canada and the US, while others have done their Erasmus in Spain, France and Holland.

Outside of college time there’s always something going on at WIT. Monday and Wednesday are the main student nights. There’s also class soccer leagues set up and a huge amount of clubs and societies that you can join. Most class reps also arrange regular class parties and mystery tours so there’s certainly never a dull moment at WIT!
