Think WIT for Business

Having just completed a BBS Level 8 Degree, Una Jackman reflects on her course and four years at Waterford Institute of Technology.

“I was faced with an array of colleges and courses to choose from when I left school. Having looked at all the options there was only ever going to be one outcome and that was WIT!”

“To me, studying business in Waterford presented the best choice of modules of all the business courses in the country. Not only that, the lecturers are recognised as experts in their fields and the class sizes are relatively small.  It really enhanced the learning experience and having lecturers who are approachable and engaging made the course all the more enjoyable.”

It wasn’t just the course itself that proved agreeable to Una. The WIT sports and social scene is one of the most active in the country.

“Playing camogie for club and county as well as for WIT, having an active social life and challenging studies made my time in Waterford rewarding and fulfilling.”

Una studied French as part of her degree and had the opportunity to study abroad for a semester in France. “Many of my class mates went on work placement or tried teaching for the semester. My semester in Montpellier was a fabulous experience as I got the opportunity to improve my French while enjoying one of the best experiences of my life.”

As for her career prospects, Una is confident her business degree is exactly what employers are looking for in a graduate. She says, “With the BBS you have plenty of choice to shape your degree and career. In the first two years, I was introduced to a broad range of business modules. This gave me the time and insight to gain a better understanding and appreciation of the modules I wanted to focus on and excel in, in the final two years of my degree.  In essence, it gave me greater control of my degree as I was studying the areas that had piqued my interest, and had me engaged right throughout the course.”

“The BBS degree from Waterford attracts employers because it is very practical and most of my colleagues are already working. I am very happy I made the decision to study Business at Waterford Institute of Technology. So if you are thinking of Business Studies, think WIT!”

The Bachelor of Business (Hons) is a four year full time course which offers a broad range of business skills combined with a thorough knowledge of the financial and economic environment in which firms operate. The course is extremely flexible, giving a broad understanding of a range of business disciplines in the first two years while allowing students to specialise and get a greater understanding of the area of most interest in the final two years.
