Four programmes from Waterford Institute of Technology’s (WIT) Higher Diploma in Arts in Television Production run in conjunction with Nemeton TV are on the short list for the best student TV project in Irish at the National Student Media Awards as well as two students who have been nominated in the best writing in Irish and the national journalism categories. The awards ceremony will take place in Dublin on Wednesday 9 April.
It is a great honour for the students to be on the short list and they were competing with students from UCC, UCD, TCD,DCU, National Film School Dun Laoghaire, DIT and the other Institutes of Technology media courses.
Among the programmes on the short list are 'Cairde Liam' by Tadhg o hUallacháin from an Rinn and Aisling Ni Fhlaithearta, Arainn; Michéal O hAonghusa and Niamh Ní Mhaoilir’s historical drama about the Vikings; a live music multi camera programme by Edel Fox and Colm O Fhearghail and a cookery programme by Shane Egan and Blathnaid Richardson.
Also nominated are Micheal O Flaitherta in the Irish language writing category and Niamh Drohan for National Journalism in English who studied in UL last year.
Most of their course work was completed in the An Rinn Gaeltacht where the students lived and filmed for a year.
The Higher Diploma has a great reputation in the media industry for its practical skills and the opportunity it gives students to make their own films, corporate videos or dramas on the course. They learn camera, editing, writing and directing skills to a broadcast standard.
We are finalising interviews for Round Two admissions for the Higher Diploma for 2014-15.
