Having an undergraduate course with Erasmus and the opportunity to follow on to Masters level all at the one institute was an important factor for Denis

Denis Treacy is a past pupil of Clongowes Wood College. WIT was his first choice on his CAO list in 2013, as it offered him the courses he wanted to attend as well as the option to study abroad on Erasmus. In 2018 Denis graduated from WIT with a MBSI – a Masters of Business in Internationalisation and now works in Switzerland. He attributes his international experience in both his Erasmus in Spain and studying in France as part of the MBSI programme to helping him stand out in the international job market.

Why did you choose to study at WIT?

WIT was my first choice. I chose to study here because it offered the exact courses I wanted to attend while also offering an Erasmus programme during my undergraduate experience.

What was your experience?

WIT was an excellent choice for me. The lecturers get to know their students individually and you don’t feel like you’re lost in the numbers of a huge lecture halls. The School of Business is amazing, having top class lecturers aid you on every step of the way.

Can you recall your feeling when finding out you were offered a place in WIT

I was delighted getting my first choice course in the initial CAO offerings.

What advice would you give to students considering your course?

The double degree Internationalisation program was one of the best choices I have made. I had no more than two months of a wait before I was offered a job internationally, which has always been my aim.

I would advise students to take the plunge and go for this postgraduate course, the modules laid out are excellent and really interesting. It’s not too strenuous and really keeps you interested in your material.

When and where was your first job after graduating?

End of July (two months after finishing) and I was employed in Switzerland

Where are you currently working?

Monte Rosa, Teacher

How has your studies at WIT helped you to get where you are today?

The double masters degree really got my employers interested in my CV and made me stand out from the crowd. This, alongside my focus on International business, has helped me achieve a great job straight out of college.

How did your experience at WIT help get you to where you are now?

My international experience in both my Erasmus in Spain and studying in France as part of the MBSI programme really helped me stand out in the international job market.

Were you involved in any clubs?

I was involved in three clubs:

1) Swimming / Lifesaving club

2) Kayaking club

3) Ultimate Frisbee club

Living arrangements

Lived in College Fields then Templars and commuted for the MBSI programme

What is Waterford like as a city for college social life?

Waterford’s social life is tremendous. You will never walk down the street and not know someone. WIT is a very social college and you will meet a lot of new friends along your journey as a student here.
