Study of south east accounting firms by students at WIT reflects a changed environment and a dynamic set of expectations regarding the service platform
Second year BA (Hons) Accounting students recently undertook a review of the marketing profile of selected accounting practices in the south east. This involved visiting the firms, interviewing partners and managers, and reviewing the use of technology in service delivery and practice development. The teams then had to offer recommendations for initiatives which could assist the growth of the firms. Finally they presented their work to their lecturer Mr John Maher and to the Head of Department, Mr Ger Long.
Maher expressed his appreciation to the accounting practices in Waterford, Wexford, Tipperary and Kilkenny which gave of their time and expertise to assist the students’ learning. Long commended the students for their application and for the insights they obtained, particularly with respect to the use of social media and other online accounting tools. It was clear while certain business principles were constant, their enactment reflected a changed environment and a dynamic set of expectations regarding the service platform.
