A new book titled ‘Fieldwork Ready’ written by Dr Sara Vero, Assistant Lecturer in Agricultural Science at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) helps students and early career researchers to overcome the challenges they face in the field and prepares them to conduct successful experiments.
As a cornerstone of agricultural science, field research is the driving force behind advancement in the agronomic, environmental and soil sciences. With ‘Fieldwork Ready’, Dr Sara Vero maps out the fundamental principles, methods and management techniques that underpin this crucial practice, offering trainee researchers an accessible introduction to the world of on-site investigation.
A guidebook for undergrad researchers
Speaking on her experience of field research, the book's author, Dr Sara Vero, discusses the importance of receiving hands-on experience as an undergraduate “Field research can be intimidating to new researchers but a structured approach to planning allows may of the most common mistakes to be avoided. I hope with this book to help students to overcome these challenges so they can focus on what really matters: learning new skills and collecting great data.”
Many undergraduate and graduate scientists have limited opportunity to develop hands-on experience before undertaking projects in the field and this book will act as a guidebook of how to plan conduct and interpret field research.
