To mark the 20th annual Science Week, which runs this week, a showcase of Irish science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) was hosted at Government Buildings.
WIT President Prof Willie Donnelly attended what was the first celebration of science in Government buildings. Leading scientists from academia and industry showcased their innovative discoveries which are improving health and the environment, creating jobs and wealth and contributing to an improved society.
Speaking at the event, An Taoiseach. Enda Kenny TD said: “Science, technology and innovation have been at the core of our economic recovery. And added that he was delighted to see first hand “some of the astonishing work that is happening across the country and across all of our society from the students and teachers to the leading researchers in our universities and companies.”
Attendees heard how the SFI Science in Ireland Barometer, which published last month, reinforces the importance of science graduates and careers and Science Week plays a very significant role in attracting future students to study science.
