The aim of this programme is to promote high-quality, innovative research, and to provide research and development training for highly skilled graduates
Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is proud to announce that 21 PhD scholarships have been awarded under the very last Presidents PhD Scholarship Programme as an Institute of Technology.
Strong research culture
This is amongst the largest cohort of scholarships awarded under the Presidents programme to date and is testament to the Institute's commitment to building a strong research culture as it moves to become a technological university. The scholarships provided by SETU under this call included: two awards to the School of Business, one award to the School of Engineering, five awards to the School of Health Science, six awards to the School of Humanities, and seven awards to the School of Science and Computing. Four awards in the programme were specifically dedicated to projects managed by novice supervisors as part of WITs strategy to expand the research supervisory capacity of the Institute and going forward the new technological university.
Unique funded opportunities
The SETU Presidents Phd scholarships are unique funded opportunities for postgraduate students that have been designed and developed by leading academics in SETU, many in conjunction with senior industry executives and professional associations partners. The overall purpose of this programme is to promote high-quality, innovative research in line with WIT’s strategic objectives and the provision of research and development training for highly skilled graduates leading to the award of a PhD.
Speaking of the importance of these scholarships/congratulating the recipients, Dr Mark White, Vice President of Research, Innovation and Graduate Studies said: “This final cohort of SETU scholarships represents a continual investment by the institute as part of its commitment to grow research and become a Technological university of standing. I would like to acknowledge the outgoing President, Professor Willie Donnelly for all that he has done for research, research scholarships, research students and our strong culture of research over the last two decades.
