'Leadership in influencing the Health and Wellbeing Agenda’ workshop was facilitated by WIT's Dr Felicity Kelliher in the Health Science building
WIT was delighted to host the most recent Association for Health Promotion in Ireland (AHPI) CPD workshop.
The AHPI was recently approved by the International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) as the National Accreditation Organisation (NAO) for Health Promotion practitioners in Ireland. The practice of Health Promotion is based on nine internationally recognised competencies, one of which is Leadership.
Leadership in health promotion
The most recent workshop hosted by WIT in partnership with the AHPI focused on ‘Leadership in influencing the Health and Wellbeing Agenda’. The relevance and importance of leadership is recognised at international and national levels with both the World Health Organisation and Healthy Ireland framework acknowledging that strong leadership is required to ensure consistent implementation of policy and practice.
This workshop aimed to provide participants with an overview of the principles of effective leadership in influencing the health and wellbeing agenda and how these translate into health promotion practice. The workshop was very well attended, with 38 delegates attending from the AHPI, HSE and other sectors.
Practical session
The facilitator for the workshop was WITs Dr Felicity Kelliher. Felicity has over 20+ years of teaching and training experience and extensive international experience in senior Project Management and Retail and Finance Consultancy roles. She brought her wealth of experience and knowledge to the delivery of the workshop and provided an insightful and practical session.
The event took place in the Health Science building which provided a great opportunity to network and catch up with up with colleagues and friends. The School of Health Science offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Health Promotion. These are the MA in Advanced Facilitation Skills for Promoting Health and Well-Being and the BSc (Hons) in Public Health & Health Promotion.
Overall it was a hugely successful day and WIT look forward to having the AHPI return soon.
