Tanya made the most of her time while studying Law at WIT by taking part in debates, playing badminton, swimming, and attending guest lecturers

Tanya Todorova Grivneva, who recently completed the LLB Bachelor of Laws (Hons) programme at Waterford Institute of Technology, is a 2018 awardee of The Sutherland School of Law bursary. This coveted bursary will be used by Tanya to complete an LLM Master in Laws programme at University College Dublin in the coming academic year.

Adjusting to new surroundings

A native of Bulgaria, Tanya arrived in Waterford three years ago and recalled “I remember my first days as an 18 year old international student and all the anxiety and nervousness that came with studying law in a new country and in a second language. However, once I met the lecturers, I was put at ease. The truth is that the small size of the classes is what makes studying law at WIT so unique. It allows students to get personalised advice, ask more questions and generally participate more in the class.”

An unforgettable time at WIT

Reflecting on the LLB at WIT, Tanya observed “In addition to the broad range of law modules on the programme, I believe that the critical thinking and research subjects undertaken during first year, together with the capstone module of an Independent Research project in the final year, provided me with the competence, confidence and enthusiasm to apply for the LLM. Having been accepted onto this programme, I now look forward to this new challenge. WIT Law provided fantastic opportunities for achieving a fulfilling student life. During my time there, I took part in debates, played badminton, enjoyed swimming and attended many interesting and engaging guest lectures. Thanks to the support of the Clubs and Societies Office I also had the opportunity to represent the European Law Students’ Association at a UN meeting in Geneva. I can without a doubt say that my time at WIT has been unforgettable. I experienced a new culture, developed as a person and made friends who will last a lifetime. I would strongly recommend the LLB at WIT to any prospective student considering studying law.”
