Dr Mary Doyle-Kent among keynote speakers at Diversity and Inclusion in Control workshop held by the world's largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology
Dr Mary Doyle-Kent, course leader for the BEng in Manufacturing Engineering (WD208) and the BEng in Mechanical Engineering (WD207) courses in WIT’s School of Engineering is one of the keynote speakers for an international event taking place on Saturday, 11 December 2021.
The world's largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology, IEEE, which has a membership of over 600,000 individuals, is holding a Diversity and Inclusion in Control workshop.
The event aims to identify best practices that shape research and work environments where diversity and research excellence can thrive.
Dr Doyle-Kent has a keen interest in inclusion, diversity and equality in engineering, mentoring, engineering ethics, environmental design and effective communications skills. She says: “I am honoured to be part of these dynamic and welcoming worldwide groups.
I started this research journey in 2015 as a member of INSYTE RESEARCH group guided by Dr Larry Stapleton in WIT and realised the importance of D&I whilst undertaking a Technical Doctorate in TUWien under the supervision of Em. Professor Peter Kopacek.”
In 2019-2020 she was chair of Engineers Ireland South East Region, 2018-2019 Vice Chair, and from 2016-2018 Secretary. In 2019 she was nominated Chair of the International Federation Automatic Control Technical Committee 9.5 Working Group on Inclusion and Diversity. Doyle-Kent is also a member of the newly formed Engineers Ireland D&I committee and WIT’s Athena Swan Committee.
Dr Doyle-Kent will be representing IFAC [International Federation of Automatic Control] which members in 50 countries worldwide in her role with the organisation as Chair of Diversity and Inclusion.
The event will attract representatives from minority groups, as well as industry representatives and Decision maker from academia (deans, department heads) interested in best practices to implement in their organisations.
The workshop is free of charge and is sponsored by IEEE Control System Society and NCCR – Automation.
