Croke Park will play host to the 2021 All Ireland Ladies Football Final triple header this weekend with students and alumni involved
The Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) junior, intermediate and senior championship finals will be held at Croke Park on Sunday, September 5 and Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) will be represented on the day.
From Giles and Lynch Cup winning graduates, to WIT Vikings Sports Scholarship students, altogether seven representatives past and present have been involved with WIT.
Strong WIT ties
In total 7 current and former WIT students will be pulling on their county colours on Sunday, including one from Wicklow and six from Wexford, with Wexford manager Lizzy Kent having a strong tie to WIT, both in a professional and academic capacity. Lizzy is currently employed in WIT Novus as Marketing and Communication Manager and is a Recreation and Sport Management graduate.

WIT Vikings Sports Manager Katie Redmond said ahead of the weekend: “All at WIT Vikings Sport would like to wish all players and management teams the very best of luck in the final. We would also like to thank and acknowledge all our current and past students for their commitment, along with their tremendous discipline towards WIT Vikings Sport. A particular well wish must go to Wexford Manager, our WIT Novus colleague and WIT graduate, Lizzy Kent. We as an Institute are certainly very proud of Lizzy’s achievements to date and we would like to wish her all the best for the future in her sporting endeavours.”
A day of sport
The junior championship final between Antrim and Wicklow will begin at 11.45am, followed by the intermediate decider between Westmeath and Wexford at 1.45pm, before the senior final between defending champions Dublin, and neighbours Meath will throw in at 4.15pm. This triple header will be shown exclusively live on TG4.
Wicklow team
Former student Paula Faulkner is a Business graduate (2018) and won back to back Lynch and Giles Cup Championships in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
Wexford team
Current student Ailis Neville is a second year Accounting student and a WIT Vikings Sports Scholarship recipient.
Former students
Clara Donnelly is a Criminal Justice graduate (2015) and was a WIT Vikings Sports Scholarship recipient.
Kellie Kearney is a Recreation and Sport Management graduate (2015) and was a WIT Vikings Sports Scholarship recipient.
Aisling Murphy is a Business graduate (2015) and was a WIT Vikings Sports Scholarship recipient.
Róisín Murphy is a MBS Marketing Graduate (2018) and was a WIT Vikings Sports Scholarship recipient.
Backroom team
A further WIT tie-in is that the Wexford intermediate team is managed by WIT Novus Marketing and Communications Manager and former WIT graduate and Giles Cup coach, Lizzy Kent.
