€1,000 of staff social club funds went to the Azzurri Sport GoFundMe campaign to supply reusable/washable face masks to nursing homes in the South East
Waterford Institute of Technology Social Club has made a €2,500 donation to charity, including a €1,000 towards PPE equipment.
The social club committee had a meeting recently through Microsoft Teams and felt that on behalf of its members a number of charities/organisations would benefit from some donations at this time.
Four charities
The following charity donations were decided on by the committee
- €1000 to Azzurri Sport, Waterford GoFundMe campaign to supply reusable/washable face masks (PPE equipment) to nursing homes in the south east counties. They are aiming to distribute over 30,000 free face masks for healthcare, frontline, community and volunteer groups.
- €500 to Children's Group Link, Waterford towards food packs for children.
- €500 to Oasis House, Waterford (a refuge for women and children who are victims of domestic abuse).
- €500 to Pieta House towards their Darkness into Light fundraising campaign.
“We tried to cover a range of charities that help a wide section of our local community,” explained Fergal O’Hanlon a member of the social club committee.
“Each year the Social Club has made a number of charitable contributions on members’ behalf in the few weeks leading up to Christmas and Christmas week itself. We felt given the Covid-19 pandemic it was opportune to donate to charities earlier in the year.”
€50k target
Jack Molloy, Marketing Manager at Azzurri Sport, welcomed the donation from SETU staff: “We are very grateful for the generous donation from the staff of South East Technological University towards our GoFundMe campaign. Our target of €50,000 will enable us to cover production costs to produce 20,000 masks during the COVID-19 period which will be distributed to front line workers carrying out extraordinary tasks. We are dedicated to continuing the manufacture and distribution of free face masks so our front line healthcare staff can stay safe while they perform heroic acts and this donation will help towards our goal.”
