Team ‘Media Edge’, comprising of four third year students from the BA (Hons) in Marketing  with Advertising and Online Media class from Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), has been announced as the overall winners of the live-project corporate competition supported by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car partnered with students from the class from WIT where teams of students were provided with a real-life marketing brief as part of their advertising strategy module. Enterprise began working with students as part of a mentoring programme in January, when the teams were asked to devise an advertising strategy to include a video element to promote leisure car rental in the South East area.

Team members of Media Edge – Hazel McPartlan, Neasa O’Brien, both from Waterford City, Eibhlin O’Keeffe, from Newcastle, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary and Jenna Eustace from Enniscorthy, Co.Wexford presented their project ‘ERAC Bucket List’ to the judges. The project included a viral video that featured the students travelling by car to popular tourist spots in the South East region including Mahon Falls in Waterford and Hook Lighthouse in Wexford, which are not accessible by public transport. The fun video subliminally outlined the benefits of car rental for these type of trips and highlighted Enterprise’s weekend special rate of €15.99 per day.

Commenting on the winning project, George O’Connor, Managing Director, Enterprise Rent-A-Car said: “We were overwhelmed by the level of expertise, creativity, and enthusiasm that the students brought to this competition and I’d like to commend all participating teams on their great work. The winning strategy ‘ERAC Bucket list’ is a fun and original campaign that is on message and one that we could implement as a marketing campaign almost immediately. The timing could not have been better with the recent launch of the Ireland Ancient East tourism initiative where the students tapped into the popular landmarks and hotspots along this newly promoted trail.”

“We are delighted to support the live project at WIT. This is our fourth year to be involved with the initiative. As one of the top graduate recruiters in Ireland and UK, programmes such as this are a very important aspect of our business. We will continue to support exciting opportunities like this for students during their academic career to ensure we are doing our part to create the best graduate talent pool”, he continued.

Marie O’ Dwyer, Marketing Lecturer, School of Business, WIT, said: “Live projects such as this enable the students to gain professional experience. Students develop useful skills and at the same time make a tangible and valuable contribution to the client organisation. This project had an impressive impact on student morale and students perceived it as a challenging but rewarding and enjoyable experience. We are very grateful to Enterprise Rent-A-Car for providing our students with this amazing opportunity and for hugely enhancing their learning experience in WIT.”
